WEST BATH — A small turnout of voters approved spending up to $55,000 more for the town’s lawsuit against Regional School Unit 1.
Town Clerk Robert Morris said this morning that only one of the dozen or so residents who attended the special town meeting Monday night at the fire station voted against the expenditure. The money will come from unappropriated reserves.
Last year, residents agreed to spend $46,500 to pursue the action against RSU 1.
West Bath is seeking $1.9 million from RSU 1 — a sum that includes interest — claiming it overpaid the district in the first four years of its existence. The next court date is March 5, at Sagadahoc Superior Court in Bath.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
