Detective Dave Beauregard arrested Jeffrey Pope, 32, of 40 Collins Road at Maritime Apartments on Seafarer Lane. Chief Michael Field said today that there is no evidence of a sex crime, but Pope was in the same apartment with children less than 16 years of age.

Beauregard, working on a tip, made the arrest at 2:12 p.m. He stated that Pope has been visiting a female friend at Maritime Apartments, and that she has two children under the age of 14.

“It’s clear from his probation conditions that he was not allowed to have contact with anyone under the age of 16,” Field said.

The Maine Sex Offender Registry lists Pope as a sexually violent predator, Field said.

Pope is being held without bail at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

He has been convicted of gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact and sexual abuse of a minor, according to the Registry.
