BRUNSWICK — Caring for someone with dementia is an exceptionally big responsibility with unique challenges and rewards.
Mid Coast Senior Health Center offers a monthly support group with presentations designed to help understand the challenges, fostering supportive and beneficial conversation among participants.
On Feb. 21, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Jay Conway, program coordinator for Mid Coast Senior Mental Health Services, will present, “Exploring our ideals about caregiving.”
The presentation will focus on how expectations about caregiving are developed, perceived, and responded to by the caregiver.
After the presentation, Conway will facilitate the group in a discussion about the impact of ideals, on the role and product of caretaking, as well as the health and wellbeing of the caregiver. The group will be co-facilitated by Cindy Hughes, activities director for The Garden, an assisted living home for those with dementia.
The support group is free and open to the public, and meets the third Thursday of every month at Mid Coast Senior Health Center, 58 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick. For more information call 373-4656 or 373-6975.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
