BOWDOINHAM

A spread of events were offered at the 2nd Annual Ice and Smelt Festival in Bowdoinham Saturday afternoon, sponsored by the Merrymeeting Arts Center.

Children were entertained by a puppet show that of course, included smelt, and later participated in the Parade of Smelt that ended at a small bonfire in the Mailly Waterfront parking lot.

There were outdoor events as well as indoor events, like the popular best beard contest, concluded by a $5 meal of various soups, and the weigh-in of the smelt caught in the fishing contest which drew 13 entrants.

Last, those who had purchased biodegradable paper lanterns lit and launched them, watching them quickly rise into the dark sky above.
