The Long Branch General Store has announced the start of delivery for its local food buying club.
The Long Branch Buying Club began in the fall of 2012 and is providing fresh local and organic foods from Maine farmers and producers to the community.
The club was founded at the store, located at 20 Main St., “to give customers access to a larger selection of Maine foods than can be carried on the store shelves, as well as to support the small farmers and producers that grow, raise and make the food,” according to a news release.
Every two weeks, the store opens an “online order window” for patrons to choose from a wide variety of food items. The orders are delivered the following week to the store.
The store is now offering to deliver those orders directly to customers’ homes for a $5 fee.
The store delivers every other Friday within a 20-mile radius of Bowdoinham.
The Buying Club is free to try for the first month, then there is a modest $15 annual membership fee.
The next orders will be taken beginning Saturday, Feb. 2, then every other Saturday.
The Long Branch General Store also offers a frequent buyer program.
Every dollar a customer invests in Maine food through the buying club will help them earn a discount on future club purchases.
A spending level of $150 bringsa3percentdiscount;a 5 percent discount for $300 spent; a 7 percent discount for $500 and a 10 percent discount when $1,000 is spent.
