Young & Free Maine, a program through Maine’s credit unions, is asking to hear from Maine musicians ages 18-25 through the Sound Off Music Competition.

The contest will be open through Jan. 28 to individuals, groups or artists.

The first competition, held last winter, attracted entries from more than 60 musicians and bands from across Maine.

The inaugural winner was Rob Burnell of Waterville.

Entrants must be 18 to 25 years of age — for bands, at least one member must be ages 18-25 — and must not be under a recording contract. Entrants will submit an audio or video recording of them singing or performing original music to www.YoungFreeMaine.com.

From Jan. 29 to Feb. 7, the public will vote to choose the top artists or bands. A live audition for finalists will take place Feb. 15.

The Grand Prize winner will receive a full-day recording session at Main Street Studio, Bangor; and a spot to perform live on a main stage at the KahBang music festival in August 2013.
