State to discuss bridges Jan. 16

The Maine Department of Transportation is holding a public meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the Hollis Town Hall Community Building, 34 Town Farm Road, about conditions of Bar Mills and Canal bridges.

The bridges carry traffic on Route 4A over the Saco River that divides the two towns.

The Maine Department of Transportation said it recently completed a thorough inspection of the bridges as part of an upcoming project. Representatives of the department will have a presentation about the inspection and receive comments, and answer questions about the bridges.

“There is no immediate safety issue to be concerned about,” the department has announced.

BEHS students spread kindness

Jess Ciampi, senior class president at Bonny Eagle, has launched Project Kindness at the school.

Inspired by“The Kindness Guy,” Michael J. Chase of Biddeford, who spoke recently at Bonny Eagle High School, Ciampi wanted to do something with her fellow students to spread random acts of kindness.

Ciampi sparked other students to spread small, random acts of kindness. Because of their leadership and good character, seniors were handpicked by Ciampi.

The group, including Chase, went to Portland where they decorated and gave out presents at the Center for Grieving Children. They also served lunch at the Preble Street Resource Center.

Also, they then went to the Maine Mall to hand out flowers and candy canes. To draw smiles, they bought coffee and other small gifts for people. Ciampi said they got busy shoppers to slow down enjoy the moment.

The Bonny Eagle seniors who went on the trip were Mallory Brooks, Natalie Hewitt, Garrett Holbrook, Gaelyn Lindauer, Dan McCarthy, Shannon Sanborn, Connor Shields, and Federico Trujillo and Ciampi.

Chase founded The Kindness Center and became a sought after inspirational speaker.

Liquor license public hearing

The Town of Buxton Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m., at the Buxton Municipal Building, 185 Portland Road, on a new liquor license for Gail P. Landry, doing business as The Barn at Flanagan Farm, 668 Narragansett Trail, Buxton.
