FREEPORT — Freeport Conservation Trust is close to completing two land-protection projects in west Freeport.
Frost Gully Woods, a 13- acre parcel located near Routes 125 and 136, is comprised of rolling woods, a segment of Frost Gully Brook and a pond with wetlands.
At Winter Hill Farm on Wardtown Road — where the Trust plans to purchase a 50- acre farmland easement — experienced young farmers run Freeport’s only dairy farm, producing natural milk, cheese, yogurt and vegetables.
Frost Gully Woods was given by Maine Water. The town of Freeport helped fund the purchase of a trail and parking easement for access to the landlocked parcel. The Davis Conservation Fund has made a grant toward the project.
Purchase of an agricultural easement on Winter Hill Farm is being made possible by funds pending from the Land for Maine’s Future Fund and a grant from the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation.
The Trust is seeking donations from the public to complete fundraising for the two projects.
