The Bath Freight Shed Alliance wants to sell bricks to help fund a new sidewalk in front of the renovated facility on Commercial Street.
The engraved bricks would be part of the sidewalk. As such, the City Council needs to lend its approval to the activity.
The City Council will consider that and other matters when it meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Council Chairman Bernard Wyman says he envisions no problem with the brick sale.
“I’d vote for anything that would enhance the city and not cost the city a lot of money,” Wyman said.
Wyman said federal, state and city funds would be used for the project in addition to money from the Bath Freight Shed Alliance brick sale. The alliance hopes to raise $18,223, Wyman said.
The sidewalk would stretch from underneath the Sagadahoc Bridge to Waterfront Park, Wyman said.
No timeline has been suggested, he said.
The building now houses the Bath Winter Farmers Market.
In another sidewalk issue, the City Council will consider a priority list from the Bike and Pedestrian Committee on plowing sidewalks. There are competing factions for the early removal of snow.
The committee’s priority would be to first clear sidewalks within the city’s arterial, which connects to schools and other public destinations, Wyman said.
