AUGUSTA — The Department of Environmental Protection seeks nominations from Maine’s leaders in sustainability for the state’s environmental excellence awards.
The Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence honor entities that go beyond standard techniques or regulatory requirements to creatively meet environmental challenges or opportunities.
Applicants will be asked to show how their project or program was innovative, collaborative and resulted in measurable and meaningful environmental and economic benefits. Finalists will undergo a compliance review by the DEP to ensure they are conforming with all laws, rules and applicable licenses administered by the department.
Nomination forms are available on DEP’s website. They must be submitted by Feb. 22. For more information, call 287-5842.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
