BRUNSWICK
Adding to renovations already proposed, architects Wednesday recommended a second floor be added to Coffin Elementary School and multipurpose classrooms to Brunswick Junior High School.
Additionally, Portlandbased PDT Architects suggested a local referendum to pay for the project — most recently scheduled for June — should be delayed until November. More time likely will be needed to finalize the blueprints, architect Lyndon Keck told school board members Wednesday.
The second floor at the Robert P.T. Coffin Elementary
School would be on the Barrows Street side of the building and would be placed over the proposed new addition instead of the entire footprint. It likely would house secondgrade classrooms.
The project was estimated to cost about $21 million, according to a previous archirtectural firm. PDT does not yet have an updated estimate.
Board members also voted to cease consideration of a potential bus garage site at Commerce Drive, off Route 1 south of Pleasant Street. Other sites — at Industry Road, Industrial Parkway and Brunswick Landing — are still on the table.
