Southern Maine Community College’s Foundation has awarded more than 195 scholarships to students, the most in the foundation’s history.

More than $210,000 will go directly to Southern Maine Community College students in 2012-13, the school said in a news release.

“In an era of budget cuts and dwindling resources, the Foundation has become all the more critically important to the success of the college, and its students,” said Michael Bourque, chairman of the foundation board.

The school says 64 percent of its students are the first in their families to attend college.
