PORTLAND — The beautiful and resonant Cathedral of St. Luke will once again be the setting for both afternoon and evening performances of this year’s “Christmas with Renaissance Voices.”

The 21-voice a cappella ensemble, under the direction of Harold Stover, will perform Saturday, Dec. 15, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. The Portland church is located at 143 State St., between Congress and Spring streets.

The concert opens with music of the 16th and 17th centuries by Orlando di Lasso, Palestrina, Weelkes, Praetorius and other Renaissance composers, and closes with a set of traditional English carols and “The Little Road to Bethlehem” by 20th century English composer Michael Head. As is their custom, the singers will intersperse the music with readings appropriate to the season.

Since 1994, the ensemble has performed throughout Maine and on Maine Public Radio, and “Christmas with Renaissance Voices” is now a holiday tradition for hundreds of music lovers.

Admission is $15 at the door. Advance tickets are $12 and can be purchased by cash or check at Starbird Music and Longfellow Books in Portland, at The Book Review in Falmouth, or at www.renaissancevoices.org.

Student tickets are $5 (at the door only) with a valid student ID. The audience is invited to a reception after the concert.
