GEORGETOWN

Students at Georgetown Central School are busy with holiday and service projects while looking forward to a visit of historical significance on Dec. 19.

Students are collecting items for holiday food baskets. After school today, they will head to the fire station for a wreath-making event.

A descendant of one of the town’s first settlers, the Trafton family, will visit the school on Dec. 19.

Students learned earlier this year they have a significant historical treasure in their back yard. The foundation of a home that burned in 1914 belonged to a man who fought at Gettysburg and his brother, a prominent town official. The foundation was unearthed behind the school, and students are studying the history of the Trafton family and home.

A winter concert is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 19, then, on Dec. 21, pupils will do a community service project at the Plant Home in Bath.
