‘Kicking Cancer’ author at Maine Coast Book Shop

Kendall Scott, a certified holistic health coach and co-author of “Kicking Cancer in the Kitchen: The Girlfriend’s Cookbook and Guide to Using Real Food to Fight Cancer,” will talk and sign books at the Maine Coast Book Shop at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Scott wrote the book with Annette Ramke, who is a fellow cancer survivor. The book explores the healing power of foods, including those that are best to eat while in treatment and those that can help ward off and prevent cancer.

Both Scott and Ramke studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City.

Bring your surplus of holiday items to Food Swap

Have an abundance of holiday food to share? Then take part in the next Portland Food Swap from 5 to 6 p.m.  Dec. 16 at the Portland Food Co-op. The free event allows home cooks, bakers, foragers, gardeners and food preservers to bring homemade or homegrown goodies and swap them for others’ creations.

Suggested items to swap include bread, pickles, kimchi, mead, jam, hot sauce, granola, ginger beer and fresh pasta, but any and all food items are welcome.

Each food item should be packaged in relatively uniform sizes, such as pint jars or gallon bags, and labeled with a list of ingredients and instructions on how to use or prepare the item.

School hosts macrobiotic potluck and craft fair Dec. 13

Five Seasons Cooking School is hosting its annual holiday macrobiotic potluck and craft fair from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 13.

In addition to bringing a macrobiotic dish to share, those who attend are also invited to bring their handmade craft items to show and sell.

Ski-themed ‘Powder Keg’  at Sebago Brewing locations

Sebago Brewing Co. will hold its annual “Powder Keg” event at all of its locations from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4.

The first 3,000 people who register when they arrive will receive a free lift ticket for Saddleback Mountain. The lift tickets are early-season tickets valid Dec. 5-25 and Jan. 2-18.

Admission is free. Sebago restaurants are located in Portland, Scarborough, Kennebunk and Gorham.
