WISCASSET — Santa Claus and friends will help kick off the holidays from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, at Wiscasset Commerical Pier, part of the Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce’s and the town of Wiscasset’s first shop-local campaign, “Think Outside the Box.”
There will be fire pits on the dock and hot refreshments for sale to keep guests toasty warm while they await the arrival of Santa Claus, who will sail up the Sheepscot River in a local lobster boat accompanied by reindeer.
Think Outside the Box “passports” will be distributed: Spend $20 at a participating business or nonprofit and get a stamp in your passport; five stamps qualify for a prize drawing.
A tree-lighting ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. on the Town Commons.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
