Police have arrested two men on robbery charges after they allegedly attacked another man and threatened him with a knife.

Benjamin A. Hamilton, 28, of Portland; and Patrick J. Ridley, 26, of Bath were arrested Tuesday.

Ridley was released on $1,000 cash bail, and his West Bath court date is Jan. 15. Hamilton’s bail was set at $2,500 cash. He was not able to make bail and was being held Tuesday at Two Bridges Regional Jail.

At 11:54 p.m. Monday, Officer Garrett Olson responded to an assault report on Washington Street.

According to a report released Tuesday by Bath police, Olson met a 26-year-old Portland man who said he was hanging out with two men. The victim explained he knew one of the men from a job he did in Portland, police said.

The victim stated they were riding in a vehicle when one of the men punched him in the face and pulled out a knife. The men then demanded his wallet and cellphone. The victim reported he fled the vehicle after giving them his wallet and telephone.

The victim told police he knew the men only by their first names — Ben and Pat.

Officers obtained a description of the men and the vehicle and attempted to retrace the victim’s steps.

A short time later, Officer Michael Lever located the suspect’s vehicle parked in front of a home on Office Drive. Officers were familiar with the address and knew a Portland man named Benjamin Hamilton stayed there.

Police knocked on the door and heard the sound of someone running inside the home. After knocking on the door several times, a female answered the door.

She initially told officers there were no men in the home. During the conversation, a male came downstairs, identified as Patrick Ridley, police said.

Ridley and the female both stated they had not seen Benjamin Hamilton in days. A short time later, the victim’s cellphone was found in the apartment and Hamilton came down the stairs, police said.
