ALTON (AP) — The bodies of a man, his wife and his friend were found in the couple’s home in this rural central Maine town. Investigators were not saying what caused the deaths, but a spokesman said Tuesday it did not appear that anyone else was involved.
The dead were identified as Scott Reed, 43; his wife, 39- year-old Danielle Folsom Reed; and Daniel Young, 41, of Bradley, state Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland said. Scott Reed and Young were good friends, McCausland said.
Police went to the Reeds’ home Monday after getting a call from a woman who went there at about 7:30 p.m. and found one of the bodies.
McCausland said investigators were gathering evidence Tuesday to determine what happened. The bodies were taken to Augusta for autopsies by the state medical examiner.
“We’re still trying to figure out what happened and that will be done with the results of autopsies as well as interviews we’re doing with family and friends,” but authorities don’t think anyone else was involved, McCausland said.
The Reeds’ rented Cape Codstyle home is located in Alton, a town of about 800 people located just north of Old Town in Penobscot County.
The clerk in the only grocery store in the town said she did not know any of the three who died.
