The first of a slate of community forums — this one held by the Lower Village Development Committee regarding a traffic study of the Lower Village — will kick off today at 6 p.m. at the municipal building.
After the Lower Village Waterfront Access Study Report completed in the fall of 2011, the Lower Village Development Committee commissioned a study of traffic issues and possible solutions in the Lower Village, from the Frank J. Wood Bridge to Elm Street, including Green Street.
The study is funded by Topsham Development Inc.
The forum will include an overview of how the study will support efforts to enhance the Lower Village, including the ongoing effort to develop waterfront access in the area.
Traffic consultant Gorrill- Palmer will provide information on the scope of the study and solicit input from the community regarding concerns about current traffic flows and pedestrian access, as well as suggested solutions or desired outcomes.
The committee is particularly interested in hearing from Lower Village residents and business owners.
The municipal building is located at 100 Main St. The meeting will be held in the first-floor meeting room.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
