BATH — The Hyde School boys soccer team hosted third-seeded Kents Hill in a MAISAD semifinal contest on Wednesday, coming away with a 2-0 victory to advance to Saturday’s title game.

Playing in cool temperatures, Wes Miller found a bouncing ball near the Kents Hill goal off a Cole Faulkner feed and scored to give the Phoenix a quick 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Wilson MacMillan provided the final dagger to close out the scoring and advance secondseeded Hyde (11-2-2) to the title game, where the Phoenix will face top-seeded Hebron Academy on the road Saturday at 2 p.m.

Hyde turned to its defense throughout the semifinal victory, with goaltender Billy Martinez earning the shutout after making several tough saves in the second half.

The Phoenix spent the past 25 days working on things to make the squad better prior to their MAISAD semifinal matchup at second-seeded Hebron Academy on Wednesday.

The work paid off, as No. 3 Hyde came from behind to force overtime, eventually winning in penalty kicks for a 3-2 victory and a spot in the MAISAD championship against rival fourth-seeded Gould Academy, which upset No. 1 Kents Hill on Wednesday.

The final will be held in Bath on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Hyde trailed 1-0 at the half on an Emily Wyman goal, and the Lumberjacks doubled their lead early in the second half.

Down two goals, Hyde elevated its game and continued to plug away at the Hebron defense.

With seven minutes remaining, Hyde’s Kara Fischer found the net, and four minutes later Shannon Ward’s low shot slipped in to force overtime.

After little in the way of chances in the two 15-minute overtimes, the game went to penalty kicks. Hyde’s Mady Preece, Fischer, Olivia Griffin and Ward each scored, and Phoenix netminder Katie Comeaux dove to stop Hebron’s fourth attempt to give Hyde a 4-3 lead.

Carolyn Moore had a chance to win it, and she rocketed a shot into the upper left corner to give the Phoenix the win.
