BRUNSWICK
Brunswick police quickly recovered a car stolen from the Wal-Mart parking lot Friday night.
A 1996 Subaru Legacy was reported stolen from Wal- Mart, located on Tibbetts Drive, at 10:15 p.m.
Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said the driver of the car left it unlocked with the keys inside while he went inside the store, and when he came out, “the vehicle was missing.”
Brunswick police responded, watched video surveillance and could see a male looking into vehicles until he got to the Subaru.
“He got in it and drove off,” Hagan said.
The car was located a short time later on Perryman Drive.
Police saw a male matching the description of the male seen on the video surveillance. Hagan said the subject ran but police were able to detain him.
Arrested at approximately 11:13 p.m. on Perryman Drive was 18-year-old David Robert Wilson Jr., of Harpswell.
Wilson was charged with theft by unauthorized use of property in relation to the car theft.
He was also charged with minor consuming alcohol, operating while license suspended or revoked, and Hagan said he was charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer related to items he allegedly stole from Wal-Mart as observed by police on store surveillance footage.
