HALLOWELL — On Saturday, local artists Margo Ogden and Claudia Brahms will teach a workshop on bookmaking for artists at the Harlow Gallery at 160 Water St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Making an artist book is not really about writing, a news release said. It is about taking a vision or pictorial story and making a book of one’s very own, no publisher involved.
One of the book styles students will learn takes only one piece of paper. By cutting and folding it can result in a multiple-paged book. A variety of forms including accordion and origami folded books, as well as sewn pamphlet style books, will be taught, too.
The morning will be spent learning various book forms, while students will concentrate on creating a book in the afternoon. Please bring favorite art materials such as colored pencils, pens, markers, etc.
These book forms could be easily adapted to the classroom making this a great workshop for teachers.
The cost is $30 for members of the Kennebec Valley Art Association or $35 for nonmembers, plus a $5 materials fee.
To register for the workshop, call the Harlow Gallery at 622-3813 or email kvaa@harlowgallery.org.
Space is limited to five to 10 students. High school students are welcome.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
