The Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department was busy responding to crashes this weekend, including two along U.S. Route 1.
On Sunday at 3 p.m., a deputy and Woolwich Fire and EMS responded to a crash on Route 1 at the Mountain Road intersection.
Chief Deputy Brett Strout said Taylor Callen, 19, of Woolwich was stopped at the stop sign on Mountain Road in a 2002 Volvo waiting to turn onto Route 1 when a 2001 Jeep driven south on Route 1 by Melinda Allen, 44, of Wiscasset struck his car. The Jeep continued across the road, hit a utility pole and tipped, coming to rest on the driver’s side, Strout said.
Allen, the sole occupant of the Jeep, was transported by North East Mobile Health Services to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, where she was treated and released. Callen was not transported. Neither of his two passengers was injured. The crash remains under investigation.
On Saturday, also on Route 1 in Woolwich, a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of George Wright Road at 6:11 p.m. left an infant unhurt.
A 2001 Honda driven by Misty Fisher, 40, of Woolwich was turning left onto Route 1 from George Wright Road and struck a 2010 Ford pickup driven northbound on Route 1 by Cullen Walker, 42, of Bath.
A passenger in Fisher’s vehicle, Ronald Rittall, 49, was taken to Mid Coast Hospital with a head injury, treated and released, a hospital spokesman said. A 2-monthold in the vehicle was properly restrained and not hurt, Strout said.
Police also responded to a crash on Carding Machine Road in Bowdoinham at 12:28 p.m. Saturday
Strout said a 1999 Dodge pickup truck driven by Bruce Hurley, 54, of Richmond was eastbound when a 1998 Ford pickup driven by James Valley, 29, of Richmond, backed out of a driveway and struck the truck. No one was hurt; no charges were filed.
Monday at 5:59 p.m., police responded to a crash on Route 127 in Arrowsic.
Strout said a 2009 Honda driven by Jessica Hall, 26, of Bath had stopped in the southbound lane on Route 127 for a fallen tree that was blocking both lanes. A 1999 Jeep driven by Matthew Nixon, 21, of Topsham was traveling north on Route 127 and struck the tree, forcing it into the Honda.
No one was injured. Nixon was charged with imprudent speed.
