Brunswick police are working to determine who shot a horse three times on Coombs Road sometime over the weekend.
Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said police were called to 191 Coombs Road Tuesday afternoon after a veterinarian determined the horse hadbeen shot. Hagan said the horse was fine as of Saturday but Sunday, the owner noticed the horse was bleeding around the head and called for a veterinarian, who examined the horse Tuesday.
Hagan said the horse, a 20- year-old Arabian, had two wounds to the top of the head and one on its right side. A small caliber round was used, which prevented the horse from sustaining serious or life-threatening injuries. However, one of the gun shots left the horse’s skull exposed. The horse was treated for breaks in the skin and loss of blood.
As of this morning, there were no suspects. Hagan said it would seem this was a deliberate action and the case remains under investigation.
