GARDINER— Johnson Hall promises a foot stompin’ good time on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. as Maine bluegrass band Tricky Britches takes the stage.

Portland-based musicians Tyler Lienhardt on fiddle, Seth Doyle on mandolin, Jed Bresette on bass and Ryan “Bear” Wilkinson on banjo, create a sound that described by a news release as “threepart harmonies, fire-breathing fiddle and mandolin licks, and the thump-thump to the gut of a stand-up bass.”

The concert is part of Johnson Hall’s Sounds Good Series.

A news release describes the band as follows:

Tricky Britches began in 2009. Lienhardt, Doyle and Bresette — three longtime friends from Gorham — sought to turn back-porch jam sessions and local street corner busking into a means of traveling the country. They spent a sleepless night recording a homemade demo album of old-time tunes. Eventually, Wilkinson joined the band and Tricky Britches was born.

They soon went into a studio and recorded their first CD, “Hop On A Train.” Their second CD, “Hard Fought Day,” came out last year. Their latest effort, in December of 2011, was an original song and video, “A Rare One,” written as part of the Soaring Voices campaign, an effort to draw attention to the many rare diseases afflicting people throughout the world. The project involved artists from 63 countries.

Tickets are $15 general admission; Johnson Hall members pay $13 (bring a non-member free); and $8 for students up to age 22. Tickets are available at Johnson Hall on Water Street in Gardiner, or online at www.johnsonhall.org.
