By Jan. 1, 2013, all contractors working within 250 feet of a water body will be required to have a certified contractor on site.
Contractors who need to be certified to work near water bodies can get such training in Rockland.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Midcoast Code Enforcement Officers Association and the Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District will offer training in erosion and sediment control practices.
A session will be held 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at Rockland City Hall, 270 Pleasant St. Registration is $35 — $45 after Nov. 5 — and includes a manual and refreshments.
By attending, contractors qualify to become DEP-certified in erosion and sediment control practices; learn about new, state-of-the-art erosion control techniques and ways to save time and money on projects; and become eligible for discounts, expedited DEP permitting and other free educational resources.
