BATH — Nor’easter Barbershop Chorus is holding a special open house and guest night on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 340 Oak Grove Ave., to introduce members of the community to barbershop music and recruit new members.
The Nor’easters are a long established barbershop chorus made up of men of all ages and walks of life. The Nor’easters are looking for more men to join them, young and young at heart, to participate in an old form of music known as barbershop music; basically born around men harmonizing on street corners and in barbershops starting in the 1930s.
Barbershop music is very special in many ways. It is a cappella, which means no accompaniment by instruments, so the chords sung have an opportunity to “ring” when perfectly lined up, to the delight of the listening ear.
Refreshments will be served.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
