ALNA

The Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum is holding its annual fall work weekend starting Friday.

The museum seeks volunteers to help with track maintenance or other projects, such as scraping and painting Sheepscot Station and the freight house, completing work on the new restroom building, or helping in the kitchen.

Museum officials said some of the rail work will be done the old-fashioned way, with hand tools, and that members and other volunteers will be coming from all over the country to rebuild and improve the railway.

Members and volunteers can help for just an hour or for all four days. Rugged work clothes and footwear are recommended. Work will continue in all but the heaviest of rains.

Work is 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; lunch and supper are provided by the museum. Only lunch will be served on Monday.

The steam train may be running, but may be reserved for work crews. There will be limited train rides for those not wishing to join the volunteer corps.

The Wiscasset, Waterville, & Farmington Railway Museum is located at 97 Cross Road in Alna.
