BRUNSWICK — Once the Federal Rail Authority processes the town’s pending application, the current “quiet zone” from Park Row to Maine Street likely will be expanded to include the Stanwood to Union street crossings, as well, said Town Manager Gary Brown.
Town councilors approved the final application during their meeting Monday. It had been ready for awhile, but the rail authority could not consider the application until physical work on the crossings was completed and the Amtrak Downeaster’s official schedule released.
Unless the FRA has questions or problems with the town’s request, Brown said he expected to have a positive response by late December.
Quiet zones maintain warning lights and crossing gates but restrict train horn blasts to limited daylight hours.
