BOWDOIN — U.S. Cellular announced operation of a new cell tower site in Bowdoin.

The Chicago-based company said the site will increase U.S. Cellular’s coverage along U.S. Route 201 in Bowdoin and on Interstate 295, and is one of more than 350 sites U.S. Cellular has built across the state.

The tower was built by U.S. Cellular with the support of the federal Universal Service Fund, a critical resource for wireless expansion throughout rural America.

To select locations for new cell sites, U.S. Cellular engineers drive through coverage areas to test the signal strength, the company said in a news release.
