The Environmental and Energy Technology Council of Maine has recognized The Chewonki Foundation with its first-ever “E2 Can Do!” award.
Ocean Renewable Power Company, Efficiency Maine, and Chewonki were recognized for their leadership in the business sector, public sector, and education.
Accompanied by a small group of staff and board members, Chewonki president Willard Morgan accepted the award and offered special thanks to Chewonki’s former sustainability coordinator, Peter Arnold, who retired last December.
“I would not be standing here today if it were not for the passionate work of Peter Arnold,” Willard said.
“Peter and the staff at Chewonki play a special role in educating a cadre of young people who care about clean, renewable energy and who are eager to work toward a healthy future for the planet,” he said.
Environmental lawyer and University of Maine School of Law professor Jeffrey Thaler, co-chairman of the E2Tech board, presented the award on Sept. 20.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
