CHAPMAN (AP) — State police say a 71-year-old northern Maine man has died after falling under the mowing deck of a tractor.
Police say Ronald Gamblin of Mapleton arrived at a friend’s house in Chapman at about noon Monday to help the friend mow a field behind his home.
The men were using a John Deere tractor with a rearmounted 6-foot mowing deck.
Police say the friend went to check on Gamblin at about 4 p.m. and could not see him. After searching the area, the friend found Gamblin dead under the mowing deck.
Investigators think the tractor seat came loose and fell off, causing Gamblin to fall back into the mower’s path. The tractor continued forward and Gamblin went under the mowing deck, receiving fatal injuries before the tractor came to rest.
