TOPSHAM

A two-way race for a seat on the Board of Selectmen awaits Topsham voters as the Nov. 6 election approaches, along with an uncontested race for a seat on the school board and a municipal fireworks referendum.

Incumbent Donald Russell returned nomination papers by the Friday deadline as did William Thompson, according to Town Clerk Ruth Lyons.

Dorothy Gardner, who currently serves on the School Administrative District 75 Board of Directors, was the only candidate to turn in papers to seek re-election to the school board for a threeyear term. SAD 75 serves the towns of Topsham, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Harpswell.

Also on the Nov. 6 ballot will be a citizen petition-initiated referendum question regarding fireworks. The referendum question asks Topsham voters to overturn the prohibition on the sale and use of consumer fireworks in town. Voters banned the sale and use of fireworks as the result of a two-part, six-question referendum on June 12.

The Topsham Board of Selectmen on Thursday approved opening the polls Nov. 6 an hour early, at 7 a.m., at the Topsham Fairgrounds exhibition hall.
