WISCASSET — Several gallery owners have organized an informal brainstorming session to discuss establishing an “Open Doors” event in the village downtown for the summer of 2013.

Community members including art galleries, retail shops, antique stores, historic properties, and food vendors are invited and encouraged to participate in this session on Monday, Sept. 24, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission office in the lower conference room of the Coastal Enterprises Inc. at 35 Water St.

A news release describes Open Doors as follows:

Building off the growing energy and events in the downtown, Wiscasset Open Doors will be an opportunity for local businesses and galleries to host their own event marketing Wiscasset’s assets in the village and waterfront.

An evening of Open Doors is hoped to be held monthly during the summer to create a destination event designed to attract local residents and area visitors to the downtown area to explore Wiscasset and enjoy the local ambiance. This event can enhance community pride and be of financial benefit to the local retail sector.

The Sept. 24 brainstorming event will be an opportunity to learn more about the Open Doors idea and for interested business owners and residents to share their ideas and vision for what Wiscasset Open Doors could look like.
