PORTLAND (AP) — Independent candidate Angus King is bolstering his U.S. Senate campaign by attending fundraisers in Washington, D.C.
The Portland Press Herald says at least one of the fundraisers on Thursday was being hosted by Washington insider Patrick Murphy, with donation levels of $2,500, $1,000 and $500. King also paid a visit to the nation’s capital in July to raise money for his campaign.
King’s campaign spokeswoman, Crystal Canney, says he must bring in money to answer more than $1 million in negative attack ads targeting him.
King enjoyed a big lead in the polls after the June primary, but Republican Charlie Summers says his campaign is gaining momentum.
