“The program is a can’t-miss for any field hockey enthusiast and for the player that would like to try out a new sport,” said organizer Troy Smith of the Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department.

“Players will focus on basic skill development through a series of fun games that help players become comfortable with a stick in the field, as well as focusing on mastering fundamental skills and game situation scrimmaging.”

Skills covered include, dribbling, passing, receiving, dodging, shooting, offensive concepts, defensive concepts, basic rules and game play.

Fun scrimmages will also be set up with nearby towns and will be held on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, depending on availability.

“These times are designed to allow players that may be involved with soccer or another sport the ability to try field hockey,” added Smith.

Coaches will be Adriane Krul (Bowdoin College student/ athlete) and Carrie Sullivan (Brunswick Junior High field hockey coach).

Participants are asked to bring a stick, mouth guard, shinguards, water bottle and sneakers.
