WISCASSET — Maine Art Gallery is proud to host the selections of J. Russell Jinishian for its new marine art exhibit that runs through Sept. 23 at the gallery on 15 Warren St.

A news release from the gallery describes the work of Jinishian as follows:

Jinishian is recognized as the nation’s leading authority on contemporary marine art with more than 35 years experience in the art field. He is the author of “Bound for Blue Water,” considered the definitive guide to contemporary marine art and is publisher of Marine Art News magazine since 2001, the world’s only magazine devoted to marine art. He is the former director of the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport Museum.

From 1985 to 1995, Jinishian represented more than 300 of the top marine artists from around the world, sponsoring many groundbreaking exhibitions including the first-ever American exhibition by the British Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Dutch Society of Marine Artists.

Jinishian studied Art and Art History at the Sir John Cass School of Art in London and holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from Cornell University. He served as juror for many exhibitions including three years for the prestigious National Art for the Parks Exhibition. He sits on the advisory board of the National Maritime Historical Society. He is a member of the New York Yacht Club, and an honorary member of the American Society of Marine Artists.

His J. Russell Jinishian Gallery is located in Fairfield, Conn.

Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
