FREEPORT – In a battle of the birds, the Seagulls were no match for the Falcons. At least with field hockey sticks in their hands.
Freeport scored three first-half goals and added two more in the second for good measure to down visiting Old Orchard Beach 5-0 Saturday afternoon.
It was the second game in as many afternoons for the Falcons, having beaten Sacopee Valley 3-1 Friday.
After a tough opener against defending state champions North Yarmouth Academy, Freeport has rolled off three straight wins to improve to 3-1 on the year, scoring at least three goals in each of those victories.
After a first 10 minutes that were very even Saturday, Olivia Bubar got the scoring going 14:02 in and made it 2-0 four minutes later off an assist from fellow forward Korissa Lavers. Sydney Ambrose then made it 3-0 with five minutes remaining as Freeport went into the half up 3-0.
Following the break it was more of the same as just 48 seconds into the second half Bubar set up Dayze Gaulin to make it 4-0. Fourteen minutes later, Ambrose finished off the scoring with her second goal of the game to make it a 5-0 final.
Bubar has now scored five goals in the last three games for the Falcons. Freeport goalkeeper Tallie Martin made seven stops in net to record the shutout, while Seagulls keeper Colleen Dyer was kept busy all afternoon, making 16 saves.
With the loss, Old Orchard Beach drops to 0-4 on the year. The Seagulls are very low on players this fall and had just 12 healthy girls to fill the 11 positions on the field Saturday.
Freeport next plays at home on Friday when they face 0-5 Gray-New Gloucester at 4 p.m., while Old Orchard is also at home Friday at 4 p.m. when they host Traip Academy.
