A motorcyclist who crashed on Maquoit Road Tuesday morning was apparently trying to avoid another vehicle, according to Brunswick police.
Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said Arthur Abelmann, 50, with a listed address of Laconia,
N.H., was driving a 2004 Honda on Maquoit Road headed toward Maine Street and near the intersection. He told police he swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and lost control of the motorcycle. Abelmann is the principal of Brunswick High School, according to Hagan, which is located on Maquoit Road. The crash was reported at 9:10 a.m.
Hagan said police have no information on the vehicle Abelmann swerved to avoid. Abelmann, who was not wearing a helmet, complained of back, neck and head pain and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was listed in satisfactory condition this morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
No charges were filed.
