AUBURN — After getting shut out twice to open the season, the Mt. Ararat High School field hockey team was looking for a spark in its Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference contest on Thursday against Edward Little.
A first- half goal by Micaela Mitchell, followed by a tally by Caitlin LaFountain off an assist from Mallory Nelson four minutes later did the trick as the Eagles rolled to a 4-0 victory.
Carly Raymond kept things going for Mt. Ararat (1-2 and scheduled to play at Brunswick Saturday at 2 p.m.) with a rebound goal to open the second half, and LaFountain completed the scoring, converting a setup from Danielle Palmer with 8:49 to play.
Taylor Pare earned her first varsity victory, turning away nine shots. The Eagles outshot Edward Little (0-2), 28-9, and held a demanding 15-7 edge in penalty corners.
Amanda Williams had 24 saves between the pipes for the Eddies.

The host Bulldogs received two goals and an assist from Dominique Lewis for a KVAC win over 0-2 Brunswick at Fairfield.
Kapriece Dahms added two goals for 2-1 Lawrence, while Alexis Chamberlain and Taylor Watson added a goal each. Watson, Chelsea Ballard and Bethany Rioux chipped in one assist apiece.
Brunswick, which is slated to host rival Mt. Ararat on Saturday, received 14 saves from Jordan Van Savage, while Lawrence netminder Emily Tozier turned aside one Dragon shot.

LISBON 2
Hanna Jordan scored two goals from Bailey Cutler as the host Greyhounds earned a Mountain Valley Conference win in a battle of unbeatens at Lisbon Falls.
Jordan scored one goal in each half, while Lisbon (3-0) goaltender Stevie Charest turned aside four shots, including a key penalty stroke to keep the Greyhounds in the lead.
Erin Gats scored the lone goal for 2- 1 Spruce Mountain.

The visiting Hornets darted out to a 3-0 first half lead and held on for a KVAC Class B win at Bath.
Morse (0-3 and slated to visit Gardiner on Saturday at 11 a.m.) scored its first goal of the season when Asia DeRosby converted a pass from Tasha Jacobs.
The Shipbuilders held Leavitt (2-0) scoreless in the second half, with Aysia McCloud playing a strong game and netminder Bryanna Ringrose turning aside 16 shots.
