TOPSHAM — Defending Class A state champion Skowhegan scored all five of its goals in the second half en route to a 5-0 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory over Mt. Ararat in seasonopening high school field hockey action on Thursday.
The visiting Indians outshot the Eagles 20-0 and held an 18-0 edge in penalty corners.
Mt. Ararat, 0-1 and scheduled to visit Lewiston on Tuesday, received 15 saves from netminder Taylor Pare.
It took Skowhegan over 40 minutes to score its first goal as Rene Wright finished off a pass from Allie Lancaster on a penalty corner for a 1-0 lead with 19:32 remaining.
Goals by Holy Lupo (assisted by Lancaster), Sarah Finnemore (penalty stroke), Mikaela Toth and Finnemore again completed the scoring.
Leah Cruze played in goal for the Indians.
