American Red Cross volunteer Sami Berry of Lisbon was deployed Monday to the Red Cross relief efforts currently staged in Montgomery, Ala., in preparation for the landfall of Tropical Storm Issac on Tuesday night.

According to a press release from the Mid Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross, two dozen Red Cross volunteers from across Maine have been sent to operations all along the Gulf Coast and Florida to prepare for the storm.

“We are fortunate to have volunteers who are trained and ready to respond at a moment’s notice,” said Connie Jones, executive director of the Mid Coast Chapter. “Sami is an incredibly dedicated volunteer and we are grateful for her service to the Red Cross during times of disaster.”

On Friday, Minerva Vazquez and Linda Blanton, both of Harpswell, were sent to a Red Cross staging area in Tampa, Fla., and are expected to transfer to the Gulf Coast after the storm makes landfall.

The Red Cross has deployed more than 1,000 disaster workers throughout the region and has materials and supplies positioned for use, including pre-stocking 30,000 ready-to-eat meals.For more information and resources related to storm events and locating shelters, visit www.redcross.org or call 1- 800-RED CROSS (1-800-733- 2767).
