MANCHESTER, N.H. — New Hampshire benefited from a combined seven runs in the six and seventh innings as Portland suffered its third consecutive Eastern League loss on Monday, falling to the Fisher Cats, 8-1.
The ’Dogs scored their lone run in the sixth when Travis Shaw drove in Peter Hissey with a sacrifice fly.
But, Portland failed to take advantage of two bases-loaded opportunities, and the Fisher Cats broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth inning.
Fernando Hernandez (5-7) picked up the win for New Hampshire, with four strikeouts and four walks.
Game two of the four-game series is slated for tonight at 6:35 p.m.
