PITTSBURGH (AP) — Mark Rogers was frustrated with himself. He derided his lack of consistency and command. Remarked after the game how he “missed my fair share” of pitches, too.

All he did was toss five shutout innings.

Carlos Gomez and Aramis Ramirez homered off Erik Bedard, leading Rogers and the Milwaukee Brewers over the wobbling Pittsburgh Pirates 7-0 on Sunday.

Rogers, of Orrs Island, was inefficient, throwing 101 pitches. But he allowed only three hits and three walks in helping the Brewers win for the fifth time in six games.

“To pitch like that and still throw up all the zeros he did, that’s good,” Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. “It’s hard to do, get people on the bases and you keep them there. It does say a lot for him being able to make pitches when he needed to.”

Rogers (2-1) won six days after picking up his first victory in the majors. He struck out five, not allowing a baserunner to reach third base during his outing. The fifth overall pick of the 2004 draft, he was making his eighth career start and sixth this season.

“I was a little frustrated with myself,” Rogers said. “Today was a battle, and I was able to get through it unscathed, fortunately. I was able to execute pitches when I needed to, and I think that can make a big difference in the game.”
