BRUNSWICK — Arts are Elementary will present two performances of “Blackbeard the Pirate” at Brunswick High School’s Crooker Theater, 116 Maquoit Road, on Saturday at 3 and 5:30 p.m.

A news release describes the performances as follows:

Directed by Joe Godburn and Eli Halterman of the Missoula Children’s Theater, these shows will be the culmination of a week of hard work by the cast of 51 local elementary and junior high students.

“Blackbeard the Pirate” relates the timeless question of “where’s my treasure?” What starts as a lazy day at the beach quickly turns into mystery and adventure when the search for Blackbeard’s treasure begins. “Blackbeard the Pirate” tells tales both past and present that lead a group of beach bums to search for the treasure, while a cast of colorful characters — from crabby crabs to melodious mermaids — reveal secrets about it.

Mystery abounds as the story unfolds: do the seaweed creatures or savvy sailors know where “X” marks the spot? Will the precocious parrots or cantankerous crocodiles lead the way? And just who is Jolly Roger and how does he know Sam the Clam? This fun-loving musical is appropriate for all ages.

This year the Missoula Children’s Theater sent 47 teams of two directors out on tour to help kids around the United States and the world create musical theater. In just one week, they go from auditions to show time, fostering developmental life skills as they do it. The Missoula Children’s Theater has been around for 40 years. Arts Are Elementary was able to bring them to Brunswick through the help of a generous donor.

Tickets are available at the door. The suggested donation for tickets is $10 for adults and $5 for children. All proceeds benefit Arts Are Elementary.
