BRUNSWICK
Brunswick police charged a Harpswell man with operating under the influence after he allegedly hit two utility poles on Harpswell Road late Saturday night.
Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said that at approximately 11:30 p.m. police received several calls about a white truck hitting a utility pole on Harpswell Road and leaving the scene. A short time later, police got another call that a white truck had hit another utility pole further down the road and was stuck on the side of the road.
Hagan said police made contact with 44-year-old Anthony Chandler of 112 Hildreth Road, Harpswell, conducted a field sobriety test, and subsequently arrested Chandler and charged him with operating under the influence and failing to notify of a motor vehicle accident.
The first pole struck, which was snapped, was in the area of 185 Harpswell Road — near Baxter Lane and Jonathan Street, Hagan said. Hagan said Chandler ran off the roadway and struck the second utility pole with the 2012 GMC pickup truck he was driving, and came to rest against a tree.
Chandler was not injured and was the sole occupant. The airbags in the truck deployed and the truck was heavily damaged, Hagan said.
