PORTLAND (AP) — Ron Paul supporters in Maine have rejected a compromise with Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster.
A committee of Republican leaders from around the country will meet this week in Washington to consider what role, if any, Maine’s 24- member delegation will play at the GOP national convention. Two GOP activists say 20 Paul supporters were improperly seated during the state convention.
Mitt Romney’s nomination during the convention in Tampa is a foregone conclusion, but Paul’s supporters in Maine want a voice at the convention in Tampa.
Webster tells the Portland Press Herald that he offered a compromise aimed at getting the delegation seated. Paul supporters say they were asked to sign a pledge to support
Romney if the Texan is not listed as an official candidate at the convention.
