To the editor:
Sending your youngest child to kindergarten is certainly a milestone to be celebrated. I would be remiss, however, if I didn’t pay tribute to all those who’ve had a role in reaching it.
Sherry Schaedler and all the loyal, dedicated caregivers at Building Blocks Childcare Center in Topsham have provided exemplary care for our two children for nearly 12 years. I cannot believe it’s nearly time to say good-bye and move on.
Monday through Friday of each week of these 12 years, I’ve headed to work knowing our kids were not only safe and well cared for, but genuinely loved and made to feel special. All the while learning valuable lessons and social skills needed to get along in the world.
This incredible extended family comes together every day to care for and teach our community’s kids … our future. Everyone, from their many “tenured” providers to their college students still learning the ropes, have formed strong bonds with all the kids. The kids have gotten to know, love and look forward to seeing you all every day. Never once have I wondered if I was doing the right thing leaving them to come to work.
Thank you for all you’ve given and all you’ve taught over these formative years. From eating solid foods and taking naps, to getting out of diapers and getting along with young friends. From having silly fun and following the rules, to preparing countless healthy snacks and lunches. From cleaning scraped knees/elbows, to painting fingernails and making “hair pretties.” Mother’s and Father’s Days will just not be the same without Tea and Fun Day at Building Blocks. Your selfless giving and great care and kindness has always been appreciated.
As I mentally prepare to drive the final laps around the Building Blocks circle, I thank you; our family thanks you and our children thank you. Thank you Schaedler family for following your dreams. Thank you Building Blocks caregivers (all of you) for being part of that dream. Thank you for all the selfless acts of love and comfort you’ve shared with our children. They leave you well prepared for the next milestones having had sturdy, strong foundations firmly laid.
These four Ballards are forever grateful. May the families in our community always thrive in your great care. We will miss you all.
