The Harpswell Festival and the Lobster Boat Races are just around the corner. On Sunday, the drag-style boat races, music, fireworks and more will give residents plenty to celebrate at Mitchell Field.
The event kicks off on Sunday with boat races starting around 11 a.m. The races feature skiffs to classic lobster boats to high-powered, alcohol fueled racers vying for the title of fastest boat in their class.
They compete drag-style, on a straight course, ending near the Mitchell Field pier. Boat race T-shirts will be available for purchase.
Live music is set to start at 2 p.m. and continue through to the festival’s headlining act — Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations — who will play at 7:30 p.m.
Local acts featured on stage will include Triple Tread, featuring Phil Hoose, Sandi Ste. George and Frank Gatchell.
Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m., and students from Mt. Ararat High School will staff a midway of carnival games throughout the day with games they constructed and designed with help from parents. Beyond the midway, the event will include a climbing wall, bungee jumper, inflatable slide and a dunk tank.
