SOUTH PARIS — Torrey Charnock shut Bessey Motors down on three hits, and Wade Hunt drove in the game’s only run as Smith-Tobey Post 21 advanced to the American Legion Zone III baseball semifinals with a 1-0 victory on Monday.
Smith-Tobey (10-9) will take on top-seeded Pastime Club of Lewiston tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Lewiston High School. Pastime, which defeated Smith-Tobey 5-0 and 9-6 during the regular season, is 17-2 after a 2-0 victory over Rogers Post (New Auburn) in the quarterfinals on Monday.
“Torrey pitched really, really well, and when he fell behind, he took a little something off and received errorless defense,” said Smith-Tobey coach Bob Neron after watching Charnock strike out three and walk three.
In the first inning, Zach Groat singled and Hunt ripped a double to the left-center-field gap for the lone run.
Aaron Barrett and Trent Charnock each singled twice for Smith-Tobey, while third baseman Ryan Lathrop singled and played flawless defense.
Ty Martin, Dalton Rice and Andrew Rascoe each singled for Bessey Motors (10-9).
